Sneak Peek & Giveaway: TO THE REPUBLIC

TO THE REPUBLIC
The Republic Series, Book One
BY BRUCE CLAVEY

A novel for our times. A saga for the ages.

On the eve of passing landmark immigration legislation, the entire Texas Senate and its native Tejano leader, Diego Reyes, vanish suddenly from Austin. When news of the disappearance hits West Texas, cowboy Del Woodward isn't shocked. He knows exactly where the lawmakers are, but he's not telling. Woody's been down on his luck, and a shady bargain he's made puts him tight in the squeeze of Marcos Cepeda, north Mexico's ruthless drug lord. And Cepeda's furious with this new stall in the bill. It's got a loophole he can exploit to add another quarter million square miles of exclusive turf to his cartel—but that territory goes back up for grabs if leader Reyes can't pass the bill before the Senate session expires in mere days. The brutal kingpin wants what he's bought and compels Woody to step up. How the cowboy swings the vote isn't important to Cepeda, but this sure is: if Woody breathes so much as a word of reluctance, it'll be his last. The prize is Texas, nothing less. It's real, and it's on.

The Republic Series launches from true pages of the Lone Star frontera story into a hauntingly modern arena of trade, trafficking, and tradition on the Rio Grande in To the Republic: BOOK ONE.

Sneak Peek & COVER REVEAL of

To the Republic: Book Two

THE REPUBLIC SERIES saga continues in Book Two:

Carmina Esquivel's workplace accident would surely have driven her deeper into the shadows, but with the remarkable new Texas law now kindling her hope of belonging, Carmina begins a wondrous journey to a place she's seen only in her dreams. Across the state, a world of darker consequences closes in on Del Woodward. The two kings on the Texas chessboard now are avowed enemies of each other, and somehow Woody's managed to owe them both his life. For longtime friend Governor Ben Block, he'd surrender it in a heartbeat—a far cry from cartel kingpin Marcos Cepeda, who'd take it without a second thought. Until a day ago, Cepeda sat peerless among the VIPs out to steer the high-stakes law to their favor, but now the President of the United States has weighed in, and a showdown looms. If the legal longshot succeeds, it will accomplish what no American state has undertaken in nearly two centuries and what only Texas has ever truly achieved.

Read To the Republic: Book Two, coming August 2021!

Bruce Clavey of Round Rock, Texas writes with a passion for exploring the Latin heritage tucked in cultural corners throughout Texas, Mexico, and Central America. In 2017, Clavey's research into perspectives on state history led to his onsite rediscovery of the Mexico City dungeon where the colonial "Father of Texas" was imprisoned, documented in his book "The Inquisition of Stephen F. Austin." His interest to illuminate compelling historic junctures brought the creation of several feature dramatizations for state museum in-exhibit performance. Clavey's release of Book One of The Republic Series in 2020 begins the journey of Texas and Mexican characters who confront the pressure points at today's vibrant river border, a land that has functioned for centuries as both international gateway and barrier.

After a rough mission in Rome involving the discovery of a devastating bioweapon, Company spy Ben Calix returns to Paris to find his perfectly ordered world has collapsed. A sniper attack. An ambush. A call for help that brings French SWAT forces down on his head. Ben is out. This is a severance--reserved for incompetents and traitors.

Searching for answers and anticipating a coming attack, Ben and a woman swept up in his misfortunes must travel across Europe to find the sniper who tried to kill him, the medic who saved his life, the schoolmaster who trained him, and an upstart hacker from his former team. More than that, Ben must come to grips with his own insignificance as the Company's plan to stop Leviathan from unleashing the bioweapon at any cost moves forward without him--and he struggles against the infection that is swiftly claiming territory within his own body.

Award-winning author James R. Hannibal ratchets up the tension on every page of this suspenseful new thriller.

PRAISE FOR THE PARIS BETRAYAL
"A masterful thriller is created by a masterful writer, and James R. Hannibal is at the top of my list. I devoured every page with the lights on!" --DiAnn Mills, author of Airborne

"James Hannibal once again displays his dazzling prose and ability to keep even the more experienced readers guessing. In The Paris Betrayal, Hannibal sets his hook deep and early, then drags you through a riveting, edge-of-your-seat story. Another gripping, high-octane book from one of the best thriller writers in the business."
--Simon Gervais, former RCMP counterterrorism officer and bestselling author of Hunt Them Down

"Riveting and action-packed! The Paris Betrayal is everything you want in a thriller--suspense, intrigue, and white-knuckle action. Hannibal has a knack for keeping you guessing in a plot that moves at a breakneck speed. This is one you don't want to miss!"
--Ronie Kendig, bestselling author of The Tox Files

by James R. Hannibal

James R. Hannibal is no stranger to secrets and adventure. This former stealth pilot from Houston, Texas, has been shot at, locked up with surface-to-air missiles, and chased down a winding German road by an armed terrorist. He is a two-time Silver Falchion Award winner for his children's mysteries, a former Thriller Award nominee, and a 2020 Selah and Carol Award finalist for The Gryphon Heist--the opener for the CIA series that now includes Chasing the White Lion. James is a rare multisense synesthete, meaning all of his senses intersect. He sees and feels sounds and smells, and hears flashes of light. If he tells you the chocolate cake you offered smells blue and sticky, take it as a compliment.
