Children's Book Week 2013 - Willard Price Adventure Series

My pick for Day 3 of Children's Book Week 2013 is actually a series of books. Canadian-born American author Willard Price wrote a series of fourteen adventure books about teenage brothers Hal and Roger Hunt, traveling around the world capturing animals for their father's wildlife collection, which, if I remember correctly, he provided to zoos. Or something. For a few years there I wanted to be a zoo vet. The author explained it this way:
My aim in writing the Adventure series for young people was to lead them to read by making reading exciting and full of adventure. At the same time I want to inspire an interest in wild animals and their behavior. Judging from the letters I have received from boys and girls around the world, I believe I have helped open to them the worlds of books and natural history.
No it's not PC and it's not the most realistic fiction you ever read but my goodness was it fun.  South Sea Adventure, Volcano Adventure, Lion Adventure, Amazon Adventure, Cannibal Adventure! I read the entire series in the original hardback versions from the Ector County Library. If you buy the most recent editions, please ignore the new cheesy paperback covers and chalk it up as some publisher's misguided attempt at "modernizing." So unnecessary. Follow this link for a synopsis of each book and this link to buy 'em all.
